INFO

Ask Deborah about her journey as a commercial photographer, and she will say simple, "One thing led to another." It's an understatement to be sure. It does not reveal her extenstive learning, training, technical expertise and artistic input that makes her work exceptional and sought after. In the field for more than 20 years, she is in demand for her work in interiors, food, lifestyle and portraiture for magazines and books, hotels, ad agencies and corporate clients, and she has been the main photographer for celebrity southern chef Paula Deen since 2008. Deborah began her career shooting portraits and discovered interiors when she was asked to shoot a firend's home for a magazine. "I liked everything about it", she says-and she still does. Shooting interiors and interiors with people in them, such as restaurants and home kitchens, just let to food photography.

Her subjects reflect her fascination with the world around her-its people, its places its beauty and nature, all in endless variety. She brings distinctive talents and experiences to her work: first and foremost, an artist's eye. She has knowledge, both intuitive and trained, of what the human eye and camera lens see and the technical ability to light the subject to its best advantage. Then there is the people side. Whether working solo with a client or with a team of professionals- producer, stylist, wardrobe, among others-she has a knack for making people feel comfortable in front of the camera, and for staying calm and flexible when the unexpected arises-and it often does on photo shoots.

Deborah's artistic talent has surfaced in various avenues throughout her life. She studied and danced with the prestigious Alvin Ailey Dance Theater for three years and got into photography by chance when she answered an ad for photographer's rep. As she says, "From there, one thing led to another."

Currently living Atlanta, Deborah is an avid traveler. She has traveled extensively in the USA, her home country of Canada and abroad, in her work on photo shoots and for pleasure, always finding something extraordinary in the familiar and in new scenes around her. Pursuing two long-held dreams, she has taken up a musical instrument-the cello, and has added fine art photography to her repertaoire. She is exploring and experimenting, especially with photo encaustic and building a body of personal work. To see her latest fine art photography, visit www.deborahllewellynartist.com
